Amplitude runs an official remote MCP server at https://mcp.amplitude.com/mcp, with an EU endpoint at https://mcp.eu.amplitude.com/mcp. It searches and queries your charts, dashboards, cohorts and experiments, creates and edits them, and costs nothing extra for Amplitude customers.

What the Amplitude MCP server exposes
| Surface | What you get |
|---|---|
| Search | Charts, dashboards, notebooks, experiments, cohorts, events and properties |
| Queries | Ad-hoc event segmentation, funnels, retention and more |
| Create and edit | Charts, dashboards, experiments, cohorts, feature flags and metrics |
| Session replay and feedback | Replay analysis and feedback management |
| Taxonomy | Events, properties and tracking plans |
The endpoint is https://mcp.amplitude.com/mcp. You sign in with OAuth 2.0 using your Amplitude account; EU data lives at https://mcp.eu.amplitude.com/mcp.
Connecting it
1. Open your client's connector settings
In Claude, go to Settings, then Customize, then Connectors. In ChatGPT, turn on Developer mode under Settings, then Security and login, and add it under Settings, then Plugins. If Amplitude is already listed in the client's directory, add it from there instead.
2. Paste the endpoint
Add a custom connector with the URL https://mcp.amplitude.com/mcp and leave the advanced fields empty. There is no client ID or secret to enter; the server registers itself when you sign in.
3. Sign in and read the scopes
The consent screen is the one place you see what you are granting. Read it, and choose the narrower scopes wherever you are offered a choice.
4. Confirm the tools arrived
Ask the assistant what the connector can do. An empty list after a successful sign-in means the token is not being accepted: disconnect and reconnect to clear the stale grant.
The exact path for thirteen clients is in the MCP client directory.
What it costs
- Free for existing Amplitude customers; there is no separate MCP price.
- What you can reach follows your Amplitude plan and permissions.
Why ChatGPT sees fewer tools
Amplitude gives ChatGPT a curated subset of 25 tools rather than the full set. It is a deliberate trade: fewer tool descriptions, so the model picks the right one more often. Claude, Cursor and the other clients get everything, which is more capable and easier for the model to get wrong. If a question works in one client and not the other, check this first.
The limits worth knowing
- It can edit tracking plans. Taxonomy management is in scope, and a tracking plan is the contract every chart depends on. Keep that change in human hands.
- No published rate limit. Amplitude does not document one for MCP. Assume your normal API limits apply, and expect a scheduled agent to find them.
- Different tool sets per client. ChatGPT’s 25-tool subset means the same prompt can succeed in Claude and fail in ChatGPT, with nothing in either window explaining why.
- Behaviour, not acquisition cost. Amplitude measures what users did. It does not see what their clicks cost or which campaign bought them.
Where it stops for marketing
Amplitude is the right place to ask why retention moved. It is the wrong place to ask which channel to cut, because the spend lives in the ad accounts. Sprites is an AI marketing agent that reads those accounts through one MCP server and proposes the change for your approval.
That is the edge of what one vendor's data can answer, not a flaw in the server. It is why a marketing stack usually runs two or three: this one for what it is good at, and one for the channels that spend money. For the other half: Every ad channel behind one MCP server. If you would rather hand the marketing half to one agent, Sprites runs Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn and SEO behind one connector, with every write staged for your approval.
Before you grant write access
MCP has no built-in approval step: a write tool applies the moment the model calls it, unless the server itself holds the change. Check three things before you connect: which scopes the consent screen asks for, whether writes are staged or applied, and how to revoke access. The rest is in is MCP safe.
