Optimize Google Ads Campaigns
Every Week, Not Every Quarter

Sprites analyzes your campaigns down to the search term, proposes the changes that lower CPA or raise ROAS, and applies them after you approve. Schedule it and the optimization runs itself.

What this template does

This template is the weekly optimization pass a good account manager would do if they had the time. The Google Ads agent reads performance at campaign, ad group, keyword, asset and search-term level over the window you choose, compares it against your CPA or ROAS target, and produces a ranked list of changes: search terms to add as negatives or promote to keywords, keywords to pause or re-bid, budget to move from capped campaigns to constrained winners, ads and assets to replace, and bidding strategy adjustments where the data supports them.

Each change is shown with the numbers that justify it and staged in a review card. Approve, and Sprites applies it through the official Google Ads API. Run the same template as a weekly Autopilot and the account is reviewed every week, with new changes waiting for approval and a short report on what last week's changes did.

Inputs and outputs

What you provide

  • A connected Google Ads account and the campaigns to optimize (or all of them)
  • The target: CPA, ROAS or a monthly budget to hold
  • The lookback window, typically 14 or 30 days, and whether to compare against the prior period
  • Optional: brand terms, competitor terms or products that must never be paused or negated

What you get

  • A performance summary per campaign against target, with the biggest movers named
  • Search-term actions: negatives to add, terms to promote to keywords, with match types
  • Keyword actions: pauses, bid changes and match type corrections, each with spend and conversion evidence
  • Budget reallocation between campaigns, with the constraint each one is hitting
  • Ad and asset refreshes: low-performing headlines, descriptions and assets with replacements drafted
  • All changes staged for approval, then a weekly report if scheduled as an Autopilot

How it runs

  1. Step 1

    Read performance

Sprites pulls campaign, ad group, keyword, search-term and asset performance over the window through the official Google Ads API and lines it up against the target.

  2. Step 2

    Mine search terms

Terms with spend and no conversions become negative candidates; converting terms not yet keywords become additions. Brand and protected terms are left alone.

  3. Step 3

    Rebalance budget and bids

Campaigns limited by budget while beating target get more; campaigns missing target get less or a bid strategy adjustment, with the reasoning shown.

  4. Step 4

    Refresh ads and assets

Headlines, descriptions and assets that Google marks low are replaced with new drafts that keep the winning lines and change the weak ones.

  5. Step 5

    Stage for approval

All changes land in one review card with the evidence for each. Edit or drop lines, approve the rest, and Sprites applies them.

  6. Step 6

    Schedule and report

Turn the run into a weekly Autopilot. Each week you get the new proposals and a note on how last week's approved changes performed.

Where teams use it

  • Lead generation accounts

Hold a CPA target while search-term mining stops the leaks that broad and phrase match open up every week.

  • Ecommerce with Shopping and PMax

Move budget between Search, Shopping and Performance Max by ROAS, and keep Search negatives in step with what PMax already captures.

  • Seasonal accounts

Adjust bids and budgets as demand shifts, with the prior-period comparison showing which changes were seasonal and which were real.

  • Agencies

Run the optimizer across client workspaces on the same weekly schedule and send each client a white-label report with the changes they approved.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Google Ads campaign optimizer change?

+

Negatives, keyword bids and statuses, match types, campaign budgets, bidding strategy targets, and ad or asset text. It does not restructure campaigns or change conversion settings without a separate plan you approve. Every change is staged with the data behind it.

Does it make the changes or just recommend them?

+

Both. It recommends first, in a review card with the evidence for each line, and applies the changes through the official Google Ads API after you approve. You can also approve a subset and leave the rest.

How is this different from Google's own recommendations?

+

Google's recommendations optimize for Google's objectives and often push broader match and higher budgets. Sprites optimizes against your CPA or ROAS target with your protected terms respected, and explains each proposal so you can disagree with it.

How often should I run it?

+

Weekly for most accounts. Schedule it as an Autopilot and the review lands on a fixed day with proposals staged for approval. Accounts with high spend or broad match may benefit from twice a week; small accounts can run every two weeks.

Can I run the optimizer from Claude or ChatGPT?

+

Yes. Sprites ships an official MCP server, so the same optimization runs from Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or any MCP-compatible assistant, with the same Google Ads integration and approval step.

Can this replace the agency that manages our Google Ads?

+

For most accounts, yes. The weekly optimization pass is the core of what a PPC retainer pays for. Sprites does the pass, stages the changes and reports, and your team spends a few minutes approving, so the account runs in-house.
