Advertisers in OpenAI Ads Manager write context hints, short descriptions of the situation they want to appear in, not keyword lists. OpenAI matches a conversation to a hint, so the only way to see the targeting from outside is to read the prompts that produced an ad.
Two patterns show up across these prompts. High-intent verbs win: prompts that name a product, a price range or a comparison draw an ad far more often than research questions. And the match is loose enough to misfire, which is why a clothing retailer turns up under a dating-apps question and a jeweler under a cable question.
