Before and after ads

A before-and-after ad puts two states next to each other so the change is the hook. It converts when the change is visible, true, and permitted by the platform. It gets ads rejected when the change is implied, borrowed, or in a category Meta and Google restrict.

About 50 US searches a month for “before and after ads”. Updated October 4, 2026.

The two frames
FrameHas to show
BeforeThe same person, product, or room, in the worse state, fairly
AfterThe same subject, the change your product can claim
CaptionWhat caused it, in words you can defend
NeverA stock pair, a generated body, or a result you did not measure

Structure

About 50 US searches a month are for before and after ads. The structure is simple and that is why it works: worse state, better state, the product that sat between them. A carousel of two cards or a split image. Card 1 has to be understandable alone, because many people never swipe. Carousel craft is on carousel examples.

Video can do it as a single continuous shot, which is harder to fake and more believable. That cut is on UGC videos.

Where platforms draw the line

Health, weight, and “fix your body” claims are the ads that get rejected, even with a real photo, when the claim outruns the evidence. Personal attributes, calling out the viewer’s body or condition, are their own rejection on Meta.

Those rejections are catalogued on Meta ad rejected. A generated before-and-after is the version that fails twice: once as a fake, once as a policy.

Honest pairs

A room before the product and after. A screen before the workflow and after. A stain and the same stain treated. Same angle, same light, so the change is the only change. If you needed a new camera, a new model, and a new grade, you do not have a before and after. You have two photos.

Find category examples in the ads library, and keep the structures that your legal review will sign in a swipe file.

Questions

Are before and after ads allowed on Facebook?

Some are. Body, weight, and health transformations are heavily restricted and often rejected. A product result you can document, in a category the policy allows, is the version that runs.

Should I label it “before” and “after”?

Yes, plainly. A clever layout that hides which frame is which wastes the only idea the format has.

Can I generate the after?

No. The after is the claim. If a model drew it, you are advertising a picture, and the platforms treat undisclosed or deceptive results accordingly.
