Find Ad Sets Bidding

What this template does

Audience overlap is the quiet tax on a Meta account that grew one campaign at a time: three ad sets built on similar interests, two lookalikes from the same seed, a retargeting set that also sits inside a broad set. They enter the same auctions, push each other's CPM up, and the frequency climbs while results flatten. This template has the Meta agent go looking for it.

Sprites reads each active ad set's targeting definition, its audience sources and its recent delivery, then groups ad sets that share interests, lookalike seeds, custom audience sources or geography. For each group it reports the symptoms in the data, frequency, CPM and auction overlap signals, and proposes a fix: merge the sets, add exclusions, or move budget to the one that converts. Every change is a staged edit you approve before it reaches the account.

Run it in Sprites

“Check my Meta Ads account for ad sets that target overlapping audiences and tell me what to consolidate”

Sign in, paste nothing: this prompt opens pre-filled. Sprites asks for what it needs, shows the plan, and waits for your approval before anything reaches an account.

Inputs and outputs

What you provide

  • A connected Meta ad account
  • The campaigns or objectives to review, or the whole account by default
  • The lookback window, typically the last 30 days
  • Optional: the result you optimize for, so consolidation favors the ad set that wins on it

What you get

  • Overlap groups: ad sets that share targeting sources, with the shared elements named
  • Per group, the frequency, CPM and cost per result for each set over the window
  • A ranked list of fixes: merge, exclude, or pause, with the expected effect on delivery
  • Exclusion audiences prepared where a retargeting set overlaps a prospecting set
  • Every proposed change staged in a review card for approval

How it runs

  1. Step 1

    Read the targeting

The Meta agent pulls every active ad set with its interests, lookalike audiences and seeds, custom audiences, exclusions and locations through the official Meta API.

  2. Step 2

    Group by shared sources

Ad sets are grouped when they share a lookalike seed, a custom audience, an interest cluster or a geography, so the report shows who is competing with whom.

  3. Step 3

    Read the symptoms

For each group, frequency, CPM trend and cost per result are compared, so an overlap that is cheap to leave alone is separated from one that is inflating cost.

  4. Step 4

    Propose the fix

Merging into one ad set, adding an exclusion, or pausing the weaker set is recommended per group, with the reasoning and the budget move that follows.

  5. Step 5

    Stage for approval

Merges, exclusions, pauses and budget changes are prepared as edits you approve line by line. Nothing is applied until you say so.

Where teams use it

  • Accounts built campaign by campaign

Years of adding ad sets without retiring old ones: get the map of who overlaps whom and clean it up in one approved pass.

  • Prospecting versus retargeting

Make sure website visitors and customers are excluded from broad and lookalike sets so prospecting budget reaches new people.

  • Lookalike ladders

Multiple lookalikes from the same seed at different percentages usually overlap heavily. Consolidate to the tiers that actually convert.

  • Agencies

Run the overlap check across client accounts before a quarterly review and hand each client staged fixes instead of a slide.

Frequently asked questions

How does Sprites detect audience overlap in Meta Ads?

+

It reads every active ad set's targeting through the official Meta API and groups sets that share lookalike seeds, custom audiences, interest clusters or geography. It then reads frequency, CPM and cost per result for each group to show which overlaps are actually costing you.

Does it report an exact overlap percentage?

+

No. Sprites reports which ad sets share targeting sources and how their delivery metrics behave, rather than a single percentage. That is enough to decide what to merge or exclude, and the fix is judged by the cost per result afterwards.

Does it cover Google Ads or TikTok overlap?

+

This template is built for Meta ad sets. For Google Ads, the account health check and campaign optimizer templates flag keyword cannibalization between campaigns, which is the Search equivalent of the same problem.

Will Sprites merge my ad sets without asking?

+

No. Every merge, exclusion, pause and budget change is staged in a review card and applied only after you approve it. You can approve some lines and drop others.

Can I run the overlap check from Claude or ChatGPT?

+

Yes. Sprites ships an official MCP server, so the same check runs from Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or any MCP-compatible assistant, using the same Meta integration and the same approval step.

Is this something my agency should already be doing?

+

Usually it is not being done at all, because it is tedious. With Sprites the check runs on demand or as a weekly Autopilot, and the consolidations arrive staged for approval, which is why many teams run the account in-house after switching.
