Find the Traffic
Your Competitors Are Leaking

Give Sprites two or three competitor domains. It works out which queries they win with weak pages, which they miss entirely and which of yours are slipping, then plans the pages that take that traffic.

What this template does

A competitor leaking traffic is one who ranks for a query with a page that does not deserve it: thin, outdated, the wrong format, or a category page answering a question. Those queries are the cheapest wins in SEO because demand is proven and the bar is low. This template finds them by reading the live results rather than trusting a third-party rank database.

Sprites starts by working out what the competitor domains rank for: it crawls their sites to learn their topics, expands those topics into queries through Google Ads keyword data, and checks the current SERP for each one. For every query it records who ranks, with what kind of page and how well that page covers the topic. Three kinds of opportunity fall out: competitor pages that are weak, queries nobody in the set covers, and, with Search Console connected, your own pages losing clicks to a competitor.

The result is a prioritized list of pages to write or improve, each with the query group, demand, the competitor page to beat and why it is beatable. Pick one and the SEO agent writes the brief, drafts the page and stages it for publishing through your CMS.

Run it in Sprites

“Find keywords my competitors rank for with weak or outdated pages, and the gaps none of us cover, so I can take that traffic”

Sign in, paste nothing: this prompt opens pre-filled. Sprites asks for what it needs, shows the plan, and waits for your approval before anything reaches an account.

Inputs and outputs

What you provide

  • Two to five competitor domains
  • Your domain, and Search Console connected if you want your own losses included
  • Optional: a topic or product line to focus on, or a keyword export from another tool to seed the check
  • Optional: location and language, for markets where the SERP differs

What you get

  • Weak-spot list: queries a competitor ranks for with a page Sprites judges thin, stale or mismatched to intent, with the evidence
  • Gap list: queries with demand that neither you nor the competitors cover
  • Your own decline list: queries where Search Console shows clicks or position falling while a competitor gains
  • A page plan per opportunity: format, angle, target query group and the competitor page to beat
  • Briefs and drafts for the pages you choose, staged in your CMS for approval

How it runs

  1. Step 1

    Learn the competitors

Sprites crawls each competitor site to map its topics, page types and content depth, so it knows what they are trying to rank for and how much effort they have put in.

  2. Step 2

    Build the query set

Those topics are expanded into queries through the Google Ads API and question research, then filtered to the ones with demand and relevance to your product.

  3. Step 3

    Check every SERP

For each query Sprites reads the live results, notes who ranks and inspects the ranking pages for depth, freshness and intent fit. Weak competitor pages are marked with the specific weakness.

  4. Step 4

    Add your own data

With Search Console connected, queries where your clicks or position dropped are cross-checked against competitor gains, so you see which losses are theirs to take back.

  5. Step 5

    Plan and build

Opportunities are ranked by demand and ease. For any of them Sprites writes the brief, drafts the page and stages it for publishing, with your approval before anything goes live.

Where teams use it

  • Challenger brands

Skip the head-on fight for the biggest terms and take the mid-tail queries the market leader covers with a decade-old post.

  • Ecommerce

Find product and buying-guide queries where competitors rank a bare category page, and beat them with a page that actually answers the question.

  • Local and regional

Run the check per location to find service queries where the national player ranks with a generic page and a local one would win.

  • Agencies

Turn a client kickoff into a concrete opportunity list with evidence, then execute it from the same workspace with white-label reporting.

Frequently asked questions

How does Sprites identify a traffic leak?

+

It reads the live results for each query and inspects the competitor page that ranks. A leak is a page that is thin, outdated, in the wrong format for the intent or answering the query only incidentally, which means a well-built page has a real shot at it.

Do you use Semrush or Ahrefs data?

+

No. Sprites uses Google Ads keyword data, live SERP checks, its own crawl of the competitor sites and your Search Console data. If you have an export from another tool, upload it and Sprites will use it to seed the query set.

Can I analyze several competitors at once?

+

Yes. Two to five domains is the useful range. More than that and the query set gets broad; better to run a second pass on a different product line or market.

Does it find queries with no competition?

+

Yes. The gap list is exactly that: queries with measurable demand that neither you nor the competitor set has a page for. They are usually long-tail and are the fastest to rank.

Can I run this from Claude or ChatGPT?

+

Yes. Through the official Sprites MCP server you can run the analysis from Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or any MCP-compatible assistant and continue into briefs and publishing with the same approval gate.

Is this what an SEO agency would deliver?

+

It is the competitive analysis most agencies charge a retainer for, and it goes further because the same agent builds the pages. Teams use it to bring that work in-house, with approval before anything publishes.
