What the data shows
Google is the only channel that shows you geography
68 of these advertisers run in eight or more disclosed markets, and the Transparency Center publishes a first-shown and last-shown date per region. That combination is unique in public ad data: it lets you see not just where a competitor advertises but the order in which they switched each market on. An advertiser whose non-US markets all begin within days of each other ran a deliberate international launch. One whose markets accumulate over months expanded as budget allowed. Neither is visible anywhere on Meta, which publishes no geography at all for commercial ads.
Search headlines are the closest thing to a keyword list you can get
Google will never tell you what an advertiser bids on. But responsive search ads pull headlines that are written to match query intent, and at volume those headlines describe the keyword themes with reasonable fidelity. Reading a competitor's headline set is a legitimate proxy for their theme structure. Watch particularly for headlines that name a competitor or a category term directly. Those are conquesting and category-defence campaigns, and they are the most expensive real estate an advertiser buys.
Impression bands are ranges and must be read as ranges
The Transparency Center reports impressions in bands, not exact counts. Read them as ranges: a band is a floor and a ceiling, and where Sprites shows an estimated spend it treats them that way rather than as a single number. Bands also cannot be meaningfully summed across creatives — adding the low ends of thirty figure with no defensible interpretation. Use them to compare orders of magnitude between advertisers, not to compute a budget.
Format tells you which Google an advertiser is buying
61 advertisers in this set run video creatives alongside text, which in the Transparency Center almost always means YouTube. That is a different buy from search with different economics and a different creative pipeline, closer to the Meta video operation than to the search account sitting beside it. An advertiser running text only is buying intent. One running text and video is buying intent and building demand, and is usually the larger of the two operations even at similar creative counts.
