Creator marketplaces compared

A creator marketplace is a platform where brands post briefs or browse creators, hire them and pay through the platform. Billo, Insense, Backstage, Collabstr and JoinBrands sell per creator or per video, Trybe pays creators on performance, and Upfluence is software for running your own program. All of them find and pay creators; none of them write your brief or review your drafts.

UGC creator marketplaces: Billo, Insense, Backstage, JoinBrands

These four are built for brands that want videos for their own ads. They differ mostly in how they charge and how long you may run the video.

  • Billo. From $99 a video. Billo prices by length (15 seconds to 2 minutes) and creator tier and no longer publishes a full price table. The creator assigns all rights to you, for paid, owned and earned media, worldwide.
  • Insense. A $100 creator plus the 20% fee is $120. Add the $500 Brand subscription: $170 a video at 10 a month, $220 at 5. Partnership Ads connections cost $125 a month for five.
  • Backstage. Backstage publishes no per-video price; each creator lists their own rate. The standard UGC licence is exclusive and commercial: 6 months of paid use (including Spark and whitelisted ads) and 12 months organic. The creator keeps copyright.
  • JoinBrands. Four plans: pay as you go with a 15% platform fee, then $99, $299 and $499 a month at 12%, 10% and 8%. UGC videos from $25, images from $10, and every purchase includes unlimited usage rights. It also hires TikTok Shop affiliates.

Per-video math for each, next to AI video tools and agencies, is on video ad pricing. What a finished UGC ad should look like is on UGC ads.

Director by Sprites · private beta

The ads, without the creator ops.

At scale: A marketplace solves sourcing and payouts. It does not solve the other six stages. At 40 creators a month you still write 40 briefs, ship 40 packages, chase 40 drafts, review 40 videos and track 40 rights windows, now inside someone else’s dashboard.

Director is a full creative team for your startup. Every Monday you get finished, on-brand video ads, reviewed by a human. You pick the winners. Sprites ships the campaigns. No creators to manage.

  • Strategy, hooks, scripts, shooting and editing, end to end.
  • Every video is checked by a person before it reaches your inbox.
  • You never write a prompt. No endless revisions.

Influencer marketplaces and platforms: Collabstr and Upfluence

Collabstr is a marketplace you pay per hire. Upfluence is software you license to run your own program across creators you find and recruit.

  • Collabstr. Search 1.2 million+ vetted creators, post a campaign and let creators apply with their price, chat before hiring, and pay into escrow that releases only when you approve. Payouts and tax forms to 150 countries are handled for you. Free to search with a 10% hiring fee; paid plans add campaigns and analytics, and the $333 a month plan drops the fee to 5%.
  • Upfluence. A database of 12 million+ creators with search, outreach, campaign management, Shopify, WooCommerce and Amazon integrations, affiliate codes and global payouts. Pricing is modular and quoted on a demo call; annual plans carry a 12-month minimum.

Platforms like these sell the shortlist. Finding creators by hand instead? Start with influencer outreach.

Trybe for brands

Trybe is performance-based UGC. Creators join a brand’s creator program in one tap, the brand runs their submissions as Meta ads, and creators are paid on performance with payouts handled automatically.

The pitch to brands is that you pay for results, not for videos. Trybe’s own fee is free to start and never more than 1.5%: of GMV on sales-based programs, 1.25% of ad spend on ad-performance programs, or 1.5% of creator earnings on flat-rate payouts. No seats, no contracts, no minimums. It syncs products and orders from Shopify and attributes each sale to the creator by last click, server-side.

Who it fits: Shopify brands already spending on Meta, with a product creators want to film without a guaranteed fee. Who it does not: brands that need a set number of finished ads on a date. When creators are paid on results, the volume and the quality of submissions are theirs to decide.

Most searches for Trybe come from creators looking to earn, not from brands. If you are a brand, the question is the same as any marketplace: who writes the brief, reviews the drafts and decides what runs? On Trybe, still you.

What a creator marketplace does not do

Marketplaces take sourcing, rates and payouts off your desk. Briefs, shipping, chasing, review, rights windows and tracking stay on it.

That leftover is what the creator ops tax prices out: about 24 hours a week at 40 creators, even with a marketplace.

Questions

What is a creator marketplace?

A platform where brands find, hire and pay content creators or influencers, usually by posting a brief or browsing profiles, with payment held or processed by the platform.

What is the best UGC creator marketplace?

It depends on how you buy. Billo for pay-per-video with full rights, Insense for a subscription with Partnership Ads, Backstage for casting at creator-set rates, JoinBrands for low per-video prices, and Trybe if you want to pay creators on performance.

How much do creator marketplaces cost?

Most charge a percentage on top of creator fees, a subscription or both: Collabstr 10% on its free plan, JoinBrands 8% to 15% by plan, Backstage 3%, Insense a subscription plus 20% on its Brand plan. Billo sells per video from $99.

What is Trybe for brands?

Trybe is a performance-based UGC platform. Creators join a brand program, the brand runs their submissions as Meta ads, and creators are paid on performance. Trybe charges brands no more than 1.5%, with no seats, contracts or minimums.

Is Upfluence a marketplace?

Not quite. Upfluence is influencer marketing software: a creator database, outreach, campaign management, affiliate tracking and payments, licensed on a custom annual plan rather than paid per hire.

Do creator marketplaces include usage rights?

It varies. Billo assigns all rights, JoinBrands includes unlimited usage rights, Insense grants perpetual digital rights once paid, and Backstage’s standard licence covers 6 months of paid use. Collabstr leaves it to you and the creator.
