YouTube ad examples
A YouTube ad example is worth studying for the first five seconds, because that is when a skippable ad loses the viewer. Shorts examples are a different cut: vertical, and gone when they swipe.
About 203 US searches a month for “youtube ad examples”. Updated October 4, 2026.
| Format | The clock | The example should show |
|---|---|---|
| Skippable in-stream | 5 seconds until the skip | Product and point before the skip exists |
| Shorts | A swipe, immediately | A vertical hook, offer on screen |
| Bumper | 6 seconds, no skip | A reminder for a name they know |

Watch examples on mute, then with the skip in mind
About 203 US searches a month are for YouTube ad examples. Play an ad and ask what you know at four seconds. If the answer is the brand’s founding year, it is a film. If the answer is the product and the outcome, it is an ad.
Where those formats are bought is on how to advertise on YouTube.
Where the examples live
The Ads Transparency Center shows an advertiser’s YouTube ads. The Sprites Google ads library is built on that record. A competitor pass is on Google Ads competitor analysis.
Save the structures, with the five-second note written down, in a swipe file.
From an example to a shot list
One sentence for the pre-skip, one for the proof, one for the ask. Then decide if a generated mood shot belongs in the open. Luma and Runway can make that shot. They should not make the product.
Demand Gen is how a lot of this creative actually gets bought, on Google Demand Gen.
Questions
Are YouTube examples different from TV commercials?
The ones that hold on a skippable placement front-load the point. A TV spot that builds for twenty seconds trains people to skip at five.
Should I study Shorts separately?
Yes. A horizontal pre-roll and a vertical Short are different edits. An example that works in one often fails in the other.
Can I use a competitor’s YouTube ad as my ad?
No. Study the order of information. Film your own, with a claim you can defend.
