Google Ads competitor analysis

You can see a competitor’s Google ads in the Ads Transparency Center: the creative and the advertiser, across Search, YouTube, and Display. You cannot see their keywords, bids, or conversions. Analysis is what you do with the creative and your own search terms.

What you can see

About 90 US searches a month are for Google Ads competitor analysis, and the Transparency Center is the public record. The Sprites Google ads library reads that same record. Search, YouTube, and display creatives are visible. The query they bought is not.

Facebook is a different library, covered on competitor Facebook ads.

The useful half is your account

Their ad tells you the promise the category is making. Your search terms tell you the words people type before they see either of you. An analysis that never opens your search terms report is a mood board.

How to audit those terms is on how to audit a Google Ads account.

One change, then measure

Pick a headline they all use, and write the version only you can say. Or pick a query they appear to want and decide you will not buy it. Both are analysis. Rebuilding your account in their image is not.

Keep the ads you may want to answer in a swipe file.

Questions

Can I see a competitor’s keywords?

Not from the Transparency Center. Third-party tools estimate keywords from scraped results, and the estimates are estimates. Your search terms report is observed spend. Prefer it.

Does a competitor ad mean that keyword is profitable?

It means they are willing to show an ad. They might be overspending, brand-bidding, or testing. Treat it as a hypothesis for your account.

Where do YouTube ads show up in this?

In the same Transparency Center, under the advertiser, when they are running video. The format guide is on the YouTube ads page.
