Audit Your Site the Way
Google Sees It on a Phone

Sprites loads your pages on a mobile viewport, checks what is rendered, hidden or slow, compares it with the desktop version and returns the fixes that matter for mobile rankings, in order.

What this template does

Google indexes the mobile version of your site, so anything missing, hidden or broken on a phone is missing from your rankings. This template runs the SEO agent through a mobile-specific audit. It fetches your key pages in a headless browser at phone sizes, compares the rendered content and links with the desktop version, and checks the things that only go wrong on mobile: viewport settings, tap targets, intrusive interstitials, lazy-loaded content that never loads, font sizes, and speed and Core Web Vitals signals under mobile conditions.

The output is not a pass or fail. It is a list of issues with the pages affected, the evidence Sprites captured, and the fix, ordered by how much organic traffic rides on the affected pages if Search Console is connected. Template-level problems are reported once with the count of pages they touch, so a site with ten thousand product pages gets a short list, not a long one.

Fixes that live in content or metadata can be applied through your WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or custom site integration after approval. Code-level fixes come with exact instructions for whoever owns the template. A monthly Autopilot re-runs the audit and reports what regressed.

Run it in Sprites

Inputs and outputs

What you provide

  • Your domain, or a list of the templates and pages that matter most
  • Search Console connected, so issues are weighted by mobile impressions and clicks
  • Optional: Google Analytics 4 connected, for mobile engagement and conversion context
  • Optional: a competitor whose mobile experience you want to benchmark against

What you get

  • Content parity report: text, links, images and structured data present on desktop but missing or hidden on mobile
  • Rendering and indexing findings: viewport, blocked resources, lazy-load failures, interstitials, canonical and hreflang consistency
  • Usability findings: tap-target spacing, font sizes, horizontal scroll, layout shifts
  • Speed and Core Web Vitals findings per template with the largest contributors named
  • A prioritized fix list, with content and metadata changes staged in your CMS for approval

How it runs

  1. Step 1

    Choose the pages

Sprites crawls the site to identify templates and, with Search Console connected, picks the pages that carry the most mobile traffic so the audit covers what matters first.

  2. Step 2

    Render on mobile

Each page is loaded in a headless browser at phone viewport sizes, with scripts executed, so the audit sees the page Google indexes and not just the HTML source.

  3. Step 3

    Compare with desktop

Rendered mobile and desktop versions are compared for content, internal links, headings, images and structured data. Anything absent on mobile is flagged with the element and page.

  4. Step 4

    Check usability and speed

Tap targets, fonts, viewport, interstitials, layout shift and load behavior are checked against Google's mobile guidelines, with the heaviest scripts and images named per template.

  5. Step 5

    Prioritize and fix

Issues are ranked by traffic at stake and effort. Content and metadata fixes are staged through your CMS for approval; template fixes come with exact instructions and a re-check after deployment.

Where teams use it

  • Ecommerce catalogs

Find the product-template issue that hides descriptions and internal links behind a collapsed tab on mobile and costs every product page.

  • Sites after a redesign

Verify the new mobile layout kept the content, links and structured data the old one had before rankings drift.

  • Local and service businesses

Make sure phone visitors can reach the number, the address and the form without fighting a popup, and that Google can too.

  • Agencies

Run the same mobile audit across client workspaces on a schedule and report regressions in white-label reports.

Frequently asked questions

What does the audit check beyond whether the site is responsive?

+

Content parity with desktop, rendered internal links, lazy-loading that never fires, interstitials, viewport and font settings, tap-target spacing, layout shift, script and image weight, canonical and structured data consistency, and Core Web Vitals signals per template.

Does it test different devices and screen sizes?

+

Yes. Pages are rendered at several phone viewport sizes in a headless browser. It is not a device lab, but it catches the layout and content issues that appear at small widths, which is what mobile-first indexing sees.

Can it detect mobile-first indexing problems?

+

Yes. The parity comparison is designed for exactly that: text, links, images, headings and schema that exist on desktop but are absent or hidden on mobile are flagged per page, because that is the content Google no longer counts.

What mobile speed targets should I aim for?

+

Google's published Core Web Vitals thresholds: Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint under 200 milliseconds and Cumulative Layout Shift under 0.1, measured on mobile. Sprites reports which templates miss them and what is causing it.

Can I run this from Claude or ChatGPT?

+

Yes. Through the official Sprites MCP server you can run the audit from Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or any MCP-compatible assistant, using the same crawler and integrations, with approval before any fix reaches your site.

Does Sprites apply the fixes or just report them?

+

Both, depending on where the fix lives. Content, metadata and structured data changes are staged in your CMS and applied after you approve them. Template and server-side changes come with exact instructions, and Sprites re-checks the pages once they are deployed.
