Find the Technical Issues

What this template does

Technical SEO problems are quiet: a canonical pointing at the wrong template, a redirect chain on every product URL, a JavaScript menu that never renders for the crawler, a sitemap full of pages that return 404. This template runs the SEO agent through a technical-only audit that goes deeper than the general site audit and produces findings a developer can act on without translation.

Sprites crawls the site with JavaScript rendering, following robots directives and sitemaps, and records everything a search bot would see: status codes, redirect hops, canonicals, meta robots, hreflang, pagination, structured data, response times and rendered versus raw content. It then joins Search Console data so each finding carries the impressions and clicks on the affected pages, and groups issues by template and root cause so the list stays short even on a large site.

Each fix comes with the affected URLs, the evidence, a copy-ready snippet where one applies (canonical tags, redirect rules, robots directives, JSON-LD) and a way to verify. Content and metadata items can be applied through your CMS integration after approval; a monthly Autopilot re-crawls and reports regressions.

Run it in Sprites

“Run a technical SEO audit of my site covering crawlability, indexing, redirects, canonicals, rendering, speed and structured data”

Sign in, paste nothing: this prompt opens pre-filled. Sprites asks for what it needs, shows the plan, and waits for your approval before anything reaches an account.

Inputs and outputs

What you provide

  • Your domain, subdomain or a section to audit, or an uploaded URL list
  • Search Console connected, so findings are weighted by the traffic on the affected pages
  • Optional: scope and focus, such as indexation only, speed only or a single template
  • Optional: a staging URL to audit before a release

What you get

  • Crawlability and indexation findings: robots rules, noindex, canonicals, sitemap errors, orphan pages, crawl traps and duplicate URLs
  • Redirect and status code findings: chains, loops, soft 404s, 5xx errors and mixed protocols
  • Rendering findings: content, links and metadata present in raw HTML but missing after render, or the reverse
  • Speed and Core Web Vitals findings per template with the heaviest resources named
  • Structured data and international findings: invalid schema, hreflang conflicts, pagination signals
  • A ranked fix list with snippets, and CMS-level fixes staged for approval

How it runs

  1. Step 1

    Scope the crawl

Sprites confirms the domain, sections and depth, reads robots.txt and sitemaps, and identifies templates so findings can be grouped by cause rather than listed per URL.

  2. Step 2

    Crawl and render

Every page is fetched and rendered with JavaScript, recording status, redirects, canonical, robots, links, schema, response time and the difference between raw and rendered content.

  3. Step 3

    Join the data

Search Console impressions, clicks and index coverage are attached to each URL, so an error on a page that earns traffic is ranked above the same error on a page nobody visits.

  4. Step 4

    Diagnose root causes

Patterns across pages are reduced to their cause: one template, one redirect rule, one plugin. Each cause is written up with evidence, affected counts and the exact change.

  5. Step 5

    Fix and verify

Metadata, canonical and schema changes that live in the CMS are staged for approval. Server and code changes ship with snippets. Sprites re-crawls after deployment and closes the item.

Where teams use it

  • Large catalogs and marketplaces

Faceted navigation, pagination and filter URLs create crawl waste and duplicates by the thousand. Sprites finds the rule that causes it and the rule that fixes it.

  • JavaScript-heavy sites

Verify that content, links and metadata survive rendering, and catch the components that hide them from the crawler.

  • Migrations and releases

Audit staging before launch and production after, comparing redirects, canonicals and index coverage so nothing is lost between them.

  • Agencies

Run a scheduled technical audit on each client site and report regressions in white-label reports before the client notices a drop.

Frequently asked questions

What does the technical audit check?

+

Crawlability and indexation (robots, noindex, canonicals, sitemaps, orphans, duplicates), status codes and redirects, JavaScript rendering, page speed and Core Web Vitals, structured data validity, hreflang and pagination, and security basics such as HTTPS and mixed content.

Can I audit one section or a set of pages instead of the whole site?

+

Yes. Give Sprites a subfolder, a template, a URL list or a staging domain and it limits the crawl to that scope. Focused audits are useful before releases and for very large sites.

How detailed are the fix instructions?

+

Enough for a developer to act without a follow-up call: affected URLs, the evidence captured, the exact change and a snippet where one applies, plus how to verify it. CMS-level items are staged for you to approve rather than described.

How often should I run a technical audit?

+

Monthly for most sites, and after every release or migration. Put it on an Autopilot and Sprites re-crawls on schedule and reports only what changed since the last run.

Can I run this from Claude or ChatGPT?

+

Yes. Sprites has an official MCP server, so the audit runs from Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or any MCP-compatible assistant with the same crawler, Search Console data and approval gate on fixes.

Does Sprites change anything on my site without asking?

+

No. Every change that goes through a CMS integration is staged in a review card and applied only after you approve it. Server and code changes are never made by Sprites; they are handed to you as instructions.
