See What Competitors Run
On Social, Paid and Organic

What this template does

Competitor tracking on social has two halves that usually live in different tools. The paid half is where the money is: which ads a competitor is running, how long each has been live, what angles and formats they keep and what they drop. Sprites pulls that from the Sprites Ads Library, which carries ads from Meta, Google, LinkedIn and TikTok, and from the Meta Ad Library directly. Long-running ads are treated as the signal they are: nobody keeps paying for creative that does not work.

The organic half comes from web research. Sprites looks at competitor profiles, recent posts, content themes, posting cadence, the formats they lean on and how they talk about pricing, launches and customers. It does not have API access to their engagement numbers, so it reports what is publicly visible and says when a signal is an estimate.

The report ends with recommendations, not a data dump: the angles competitors are winning with that you are not using, the gaps they leave open, and the creative worth testing next. Ask for it once, or schedule it as an Autopilot so a fresh version arrives every week.

Run it in Sprites

“Track these four competitors on social: pull their active ads, research their organic posts, and tell me which angles are working that we are not using”

Sign in, paste nothing: this prompt opens pre-filled. Sprites asks for what it needs, shows the plan, and waits for your approval before anything reaches an account.

Inputs and outputs

What you provide

  • Two to eight competitors: names, websites and any social handles you know
  • The platforms that matter to you and the region or language to focus on
  • Your own positioning, so recommendations compare against what you actually say
  • Optional: a past report or the questions you most want answered

What you get

  • Per competitor: active ads by platform with format, angle, offer, landing page and how long each has run
  • Per competitor: organic presence notes on themes, cadence, formats and tone from public profiles
  • A cross-competitor comparison of angles, offers and formats, with what is shared and what is unique
  • Recommendations: angles to test, gaps to claim and creative to counter, with draft copy where useful
  • Optional weekly Autopilot that reruns the report and highlights changes

How it runs

  1. Step 1

    Identify the competitors

Sprites confirms the list, finds the advertiser pages and social profiles, and adds close competitors you may have missed if you ask.

  2. Step 2

    Pull the ads

Searches the Sprites Ads Library and the Meta Ad Library for each competitor, records active ads with dates, formats and landing pages, and flags the longest-running ones.

  3. Step 3

    Research organic activity

Reads public profiles and recent posts through web research and writes notes on themes, cadence, formats and messaging.

  4. Step 4

    Compare and recommend

Lays competitors side by side, names the winning angles and open gaps, and drafts the counter-moves as testable copy or creative briefs.

  5. Step 5

    Deliver or schedule

Returns the report with links to every ad and post cited, and offers to rerun it weekly as an Autopilot with a changes-since-last-time section.

Where teams use it

  • Before a creative refresh

See which angles competitors have kept live for months and which they killed, then have Sprites draft the creative that occupies the space they left.

  • Ecommerce category watch

Track promotions, bundles and pricing claims competitors push in ads and posts, so your own offers respond to the market rather than to guesses.

  • B2B positioning

Compare how competitors describe the same problem on LinkedIn ads and organic posts, and find the language nobody in the category owns yet.

  • Agency client reporting

A scheduled competitor section per client workspace, white-labeled, that gives the monthly review something to say beyond your own numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Which platforms does the tracker cover?

+

Paid ads from Meta, Google, LinkedIn and TikTok through the Sprites Ads Library, plus the Meta Ad Library directly. Organic activity on any platform with public profiles, through web research. Sprites does not run or track X ads.

Can it see competitor engagement numbers?

+

Only what is publicly visible on their posts. Sprites has no API access to competitor analytics, so it reports visible likes, comments and posting cadence and marks any inference as an estimate. Ad longevity is a stronger signal and comes from the library dates.

How many competitors can I track at once?

+

The template is built for two to eight per run so the comparison stays readable. Larger sets work as separate runs per segment, or as a scheduled Autopilot that rotates through the list.

Does it work for B2B and B2C brands?

+

Yes. For B2B the LinkedIn ads and organic posts carry most of the signal; for B2C it is Meta and TikTok creative and promotions. You choose the platforms and Sprites weights the report accordingly.

Can I run this from Claude or ChatGPT?

+

Yes. Sprites ships an official MCP server, so the same competitor report runs from Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or any MCP-compatible assistant, or in the Sprites app.
