The best AEO tools in 2026 do one of three jobs: grade where your brand stands in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity today, track buyer prompts over time, or fix the gap by writing and publishing the pages the engines cite. Almost every tool on the market is a tracker. Only a few write, and only one also runs the paid side of the same prompts.
The short answer
- Want it fixed, not charted: Sprites, free to start. Tracks every major engine, then writes and publishes the page that wins the prompt.
- Enterprise with a procurement team: Profound. Deepest data, Agents that publish, sales-led pricing.
- SEO team that only wants the data: Peec AI, $95 to $495 a month.
- A free grade right now: the Sprites AEO grader, live across three engines, with the fixes on the page.

The three jobs an AEO tool can do
Grade: where do I stand today?
A grader runs your brand past the answer engines once and scores what comes back. It answers the first question every marketer has, whether ChatGPT knows us at all, in under a minute and for free. It cannot tell you whether you are improving, because every answer is a fresh, non-deterministic run.

Track: am I winning or losing?
A tracker repeats a fixed set of buyer prompts on a schedule, daily or weekly, across several engines, and records whether you are mentioned, in what position, with what sentiment and which sources were cited. This is where most of the category lives, and where most of the price differences come from: the meter is prompts × engines × runs, and a plan that looks cheap at 50 prompts on three engines is 4,500 answers a month.
Fix: make the engines cite me
Tracking tells you that a rival owns “best CRM for startups” in Perplexity. The fix is a page built for that prompt, with the answer in the first two sentences, a comparison table, FAQ schema and fresh proof, published and then re-measured. Every tracker leaves this to your writers. Sprites does it end to end, and Profound does it on enterprise contracts.
The best AEO tools in 2026
1. Sprites: Best AEO tool that fixes what it finds

Sprites is an AI marketing agent, and AEO is one of the jobs it runs. It repeats your buyer prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, records mention, position, sentiment and citations per engine, and then does the part every tracker hands back to you: it writes the answer-first page that wins the prompt, adds the FAQ and schema the engines quote, and publishes it to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Framer or Wix once you approve. The same agent runs your SEO and your Meta, Google and LinkedIn ads, so a prompt you are losing organically can be covered with paid search the same week.
The front door is free: the AEO grader returns an A–F grade and three fixes in under a minute, and the AI visibility checker gives the same live run as one 0–100 score. Best for: founders and lean marketing teams that want the citation won, not charted. Limits: not a standalone enterprise reporting suite. Pricing: free to start.
2. Profound: Best for enterprise brands with a budget

Profound is the category’s heavyweight: a $180M Series D at a $1.8B valuation on September 15, 2026, and customers such as Walmart, Target, Figma and Stripe. It tracks up to nine answer engines, adds Prompt Volumes (real-conversation demand data), Agent Analytics for AI crawler traffic and ChatGPT Shopping, and its Agents now research, draft and publish to WordPress, Sanity and Contentful, orchestrated by a background agent called Aim.
What it does not do is sell to you directly. The only published plan is a seven-day trial of 50 prompts on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews; everything after that is a custom Enterprise contract through a demo. Best for: enterprise brands with SSO, SOC 2 and procurement requirements. Limits: no self-serve plan, no ads. See Profound pricing and the Profound alternatives.
3. Peec AI: Best dedicated tracker for SEO teams

Peec is the cleanest pure tracker in the category and the fastest-growing: Berlin-based, a $21M Series A in November 2025 and more than 3,000 brands and agencies on it. Plans run $95, $245 and $495 a month for 50, 150 and 350 prompts, each on three models you choose, with unlimited seats and daily runs on every plan. The data is good: visibility, position, sentiment, share of voice, citation sources and query fan-outs, plus Looker Studio, API and MCP access.
Peec describes itself as “not a content-generation tool (by design)”. It shows you where you are invisible and recommends actions; writing and shipping the pages is your job. Best for: SEO teams with writers who want clean, affordable data. Limits: three models per plan, API and SSO only on Enterprise. Full detail in the Peec AI review.
4. HubSpot AI Search Grader: Best free one-time brand check

HubSpot’s grader, formerly the AEO Grader, asks for a company name, location, product and industry, then scores the brand out of 100 across five dimensions from what ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini hold in their training data. It is free and needs no account; the full report sits behind a form. HubSpot’s paid AEO tracker starts at $50 a month and is included in Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise.
Best for: a quick read on brand perception. Limits: a one-time snapshot from training data rather than a live query, and no fixes. The Sprites AEO grader is the live alternative, with the fix list on the page.
5. Otterly.AI: Best budget monitoring

Otterly is the entry point most small teams try first: $29 a month for 15 prompts, $189 for 100 and $489 for 400, tracking ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot, with Gemini, AI Mode and Claude sold as add-ons. It adds GEO audits of individual URLs and covers more than 50 countries.
Best for: agencies and SMBs that want cheap monitoring. Limits: monitoring and recommendations only; engines beyond the base four cost extra on every plan.
6. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: Best if you already pay for Semrush

Semrush’s toolkit tracks 25 custom prompts daily per domain across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, with competitor comparisons, prompt research and an AI-readiness audit, all joined to the keyword data your team already uses. The Sprites vs Semrush comparison covers what the suite does and does not do for AI search.
Best for: Semrush teams that want AI visibility in the same dashboard. Limits: 25 prompts is a small sample, and nothing is written or published.
7. Ahrefs Brand Radar: Best if you already pay for Ahrefs

Brand Radar pairs a very large modelled index of AI prompts with custom prompt tracking across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot, sitting on top of the Ahrefs backlink and keyword data. The AI index starts at $199 a month and needs an Ahrefs plan from $129; custom prompt packages start at $50.
Best for: market-level research on Ahrefs. Limits: two subscriptions before you track one prompt, and no content output.
8. Scrunch: Best for an AI-readable version of your site

Scrunch tracks 350 custom prompts on its Starter plan and adds the Agent Experience Platform, which serves AI crawlers a cleaner, structured version of your site. Sitecore announced its acquisition of Scrunch on June 3, 2026, so expect it to move deeper into the Sitecore stack.
Best for: mid-market and enterprise teams, especially on Sitecore. Limits: no articles or page rewrites for human readers.
9. AthenaHQ: Best engine breadth on a credit meter

AthenaHQ covers eleven models on its Starter plan, from ChatGPT and Perplexity to Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral, on a credit system: 3,600 credits for $295 a month. It is a Y Combinator company with a content optimization agent layered on the tracking.
Best for: growth-stage teams that want every engine. Limits: credits make the monthly cost hard to predict.
10. Writesonic GEO: Best budget tracker that also drafts articles

Writesonic bundles 50 tracked prompts, 15 articles and 10 audits into its $79 Starter plan, tracking ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews, and publishes to WordPress on every plan.
Best for: content-heavy small teams on WordPress. Limits: three engines on self-serve plans, and the content is generic until you feed it your brand.
11. Searchable: Best SMB bundle of tracking and articles
Searchable tracks 100 prompts across eight engines, including Claude, Grok and DeepSeek, with 20 articles and 200 page audits a month on its $125 Professional plan, and integrations for WordPress and Webflow.
Best for: small teams that want tracking and drafts in one bill. Limits: a young product; confirm the publishing workflow in the 14-day trial.
12. Rankscale: Cheapest broad-engine tracker

Rankscale tracks every major engine, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek and Mistral included, on a credit meter from $20 a month.
Best for: a cheap second opinion on your main tracker. Limits: no content creation or recommendations beyond the data.
Even the AEO vendors have an AEO problem
On September 21, 2026, the Sprites AEO grader gave the category’s two best-known trackers their own grades. Peec AI graded an F: ChatGPT placed it next to UiPath and Zapier, and Gemini had nothing to say about it at all. Profound graded a C: Perplexity knew it well, but Gemini put it next to Supreme, Kith and BAPE, confusing the AEO company with a streetwear label.
That is not a knock on either product. It is the clearest possible proof of the category’s thesis: knowing where you stand does not make you visible. A brand with an ambiguous name and little third-party text about it stays invisible until someone publishes the pages that tell the engines who it is.
How to choose an AEO tool
Start with the job, not the feature list.
- If you have writers and an SEO lead, a tracker such as Peec or Otterly is enough. Budget for the prompts you actually need, times the engines you need them on.
- If you do not have writers, a tracker is a report nobody acts on. Pick a tool that writes and publishes, and check which CMS it reaches.
- If you sell to the enterprise, SSO, SOC 2 and a dedicated specialist may be requirements. Profound, Conductor and BrightEdge sell that; the Conductor alternatives page prices the enterprise platforms.
- If you also run paid search, the prompts you lose organically are the ones worth covering with ads while the page ranks. Only Sprites runs both from one agent, with Google Ads and Meta Ads in the same workflow.

AEO tools: frequently asked questions
What are AEO tools?
AEO tools help a brand appear in the answers that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews give to buyer questions. They do one or more of five jobs: grade where you stand today, track buyer prompts over time, diagnose why you are missing, write the page that wins the prompt, and publish it. Most tools on the market only track.
What is the best AEO tool in 2026?
For a team that wants the work done, Sprites, because it tracks the engines and then writes and publishes the pages that win the prompts, and it is free to start. For enterprise brands with procurement requirements, Profound. For SEO teams that only want clean tracking data, Peec AI. For a free one-time check, the Sprites AEO grader or HubSpot’s AI Search Grader.
Is there a free AEO checker?
Yes. The Sprites AEO grader is free and returns a live A–F grade across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, five scored dimensions and three ranked fixes, with no account. HubSpot’s AI Search Grader is also free and scores a brand from the engines’ training data. Both are snapshots; ongoing tracking is a paid job on every platform.
What is the difference between AEO and GEO tools?
None that matters when buying. AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) describe the same goal, being cited in AI-generated answers, and vendors use whichever term their buyers search for. Judge a tool by which engines it covers and whether it only reports or also fixes.
How much do AEO tools cost?
Trackers run from $20–29 a month (Rankscale, Otterly Lite) through $95–495 (Peec AI) to $300 and up (Scrunch, AthenaHQ, Goodie). Enterprise platforms such as Profound are quoted on request. Suite add-ons cost $99 a month on Semrush and $199 plus an Ahrefs plan on Ahrefs. Sprites is free to start and includes the writing and publishing.
Do AEO tools track Google AI Overviews and AI Mode?
Most do, but check the plan. Peec lets you choose three models per plan from a list that includes AI Overviews and AI Mode; Otterly includes AI Overviews and sells AI Mode as an add-on; Profound’s trial covers AI Overviews and its Enterprise plan adds AI Mode. Sprites tracks both alongside ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini.
Which AEO tools write and publish content?
Sprites writes and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Framer and Wix under approval, on self-serve plans. Profound’s Agents publish to WordPress, Sanity and Contentful on Enterprise contracts. Writesonic and Searchable draft articles with WordPress integrations. Peec, Otterly, Rankscale and the Semrush and Ahrefs add-ons do not write content.
