Why it happens
A bid or cost target too low
A bid or cost target too low
Manual bidding and target cost both cap what Reddit can pay. Below the auction, the ad group sits idle.
Too little inventory
Small communities, narrow keywords, one country. The budget is bigger than the audience can absorb.
A campaign spend cap
A lifetime spend cap on the campaign stops every ad group under it once reached.
Weak creative
Low click-through makes each impression cost more. The same bid buys less delivery.
Not live yet
Ads waiting on review or a start date in the future spend nothing.
How to fix it, step by step
Compare spend with budget
In Reddit Ads Manager, look at spend against the daily budget for each ad group over the last 7 days.
Check the bid strategy
Edit the ad group. Raise a manual bid or target cost, or switch to automatic bidding to see whether spend returns.
Widen targeting
Add related communities and interests, broaden locations and devices, or try a broader audience alongside the narrow one.
Check the campaign cap
Open the campaign settings and raise or remove the spend cap if it has been reached.
Refresh the ads
Add new posts with a sharper hook. Better click-through buys more delivery at the same bid.

Sprites fixes this
Or let Sprites fix it
Sprites ranks your ad groups by how far they fall short, reads why, and proposes the bid, budget or targeting change. You approve every change.
What Sprites does
- Ranks ad groups by spend, impressions and cost per result, against the previous period.
- Reads each ad group’s bid strategy, goal, delivery status and schedule, and the campaign’s spend cap.
- Raises the bid, switches the bid strategy, or widens communities, interests and locations.
- Raises the budget or the campaign spend cap when the cap is the limit.
What it doesn't do
- Fix billing or a payment hold
Questions
Why is Reddit not spending my budget?
Usually the bid or cost target is below the auction, or the targeting has too little inventory. Fix the bid first, then widen targeting.
Manual bid or automatic bidding on Reddit?
Automatic bidding spends the budget and finds the price for you. Manual bidding controls cost but underspends when set low. Start automatic, cap later.
Will a bigger budget make Reddit spend more?
Not if the bid or the audience is the limit. A bigger budget on a starved ad group stays unspent.
How fast does spend pick up after a change?
Usually within hours. Give it a day before the next change.
Are Reddit ads not working at all, or just not spending?
Check impressions. Zero impressions is a delivery problem: review, status or billing. Some impressions with low spend is an auction problem: bid and targeting.
