Why it happens
The dataset is not connected to the ad account
The dataset is not connected to the ad account
Datasets belong to a business and are assigned to ad accounts one by one. A new ad account, or a dataset created from a store app, often has no assignment.
You have no access to the dataset
Ad account access does not include dataset access. Without a role on the dataset, it does not appear for you.
Another business owns it
An agency or a former partner created the pixel in their Business Manager and never shared it with yours.
The campaign does not use a dataset
The dataset field appears only when the conversion location is your website. Awareness and some traffic setups never show it.
The wrong ad account is open
Businesses with several ad accounts often build in one while the pixel is connected to another.
How to fix it, step by step
Connect the dataset
In Business Settings, open Data sources, then Datasets, select the dataset and open Connected assets. Add the ad account.
Give yourself access
On the same dataset, open People and assign yourself, or ask a Business Manager admin to.
Request it from the owner
If another business owns the dataset, ask them to share it with your business as a partner, then connect it to your ad account.
Check the ad set
In Ads Manager, set the conversion location to Website and open the Dataset dropdown. Reload Ads Manager if it was open while you made the change.

Sprites diagnoses this
Sprites diagnoses it
Sprites reads your pixel and CAPI health and shows where it breaks, including the dataset that receives events but is not connected to the ad account.
What Sprites does
- Reads whether each dataset is connected to the ad account you work in, and flags any that is not.
- Lists the pixels the ad account can use, and reads which one each ad set optimizes on.
- When the connection cannot read a dataset, names the missing permission and exactly where in Business Settings to grant it.
What it doesn't do
- Connect the dataset to your ad account
- Grant people access in Business Settings
Questions
Why is my pixel not showing in Ads Manager?
It is not connected to the ad account, you have no role on it, or the campaign does not use a website conversion location.
Where do I connect a pixel to an ad account?
Business Settings, Data sources, Datasets, select it, Connected assets, add the ad account.
Can two ad accounts use the same pixel?
Yes. Connect the dataset to each one. Both read the same events, so their reported results overlap.
The pixel belongs to my old agency. What now?
Ask them to share it with your business as a partner. If they will not, create a new dataset and install it, and accept starting with no history.
