Why it happens
A new ad set
A new ad set
Every new ad set starts in learning, including duplicates.
A creative change
Adding a new ad or editing an existing one restarts learning for the ad set.
A targeting or optimization change
Changing the audience, placements, optimization event or conversion location.
A big budget or bid change
Large jumps in budget or a bid strategy change. Moves of around 20% are usually safe.
A long pause
Pausing an ad set for 7 days or more restarts learning when you turn it back on.
How to fix it, step by step
Launch with enough budget
Budget each ad set for at least 50 results a week at your expected cost.
Batch your edits
Make changes together once, instead of a tweak every day.
Add creative in new ads, not edits
Launching new ads still restarts learning, so add several at once on a set day each week.
Scale in steps
Raise budgets by about 20% at a time on ad sets that are working.
Read results after learning
Judge cost per result once the Delivery column shows Active rather than Learning.

Sprites fixes this
Or let Sprites fix it
Sprites shows which ad sets are learning, which are learning limited and how close each is to exiting, then proposes the changes. You approve every change.
What Sprites does
- Lists every ad set’s learning stage and the conversions counted toward exiting.
- Reads the account change history, so a learning restart lines up with the edit that caused it.
- Reads each ad set’s current learning stage and status before it proposes any change.
- Proposes budget and ad set changes as approval cards, so nothing restarts learning without your say.
What it doesn't do
- Skip or shorten Meta's learning phase
Questions
How long is the learning phase on Meta ads?
Until the ad set gets about 50 optimization events in 7 days after launch or its last significant edit. At healthy budgets that is often under a week.
What counts as a significant edit?
Changes to targeting, creative, the optimization event or bid strategy, adding a new ad, a large budget change, and pausing for 7 days or more.
Does increasing the budget reset learning?
A large jump can. Raise budgets in steps of about 20% to keep learning intact.
Should I turn off ads during learning?
Only ads that are clearly broken. Turning ads off and on is an edit, and early results in learning are noisy.
Is the learning phase the same as learning limited?
No. Learning is the normal first stretch. Learning limited means Meta does not expect that stretch to finish with the current setup.
