Why it happens
The form never loads a success page
The form never loads a success page
Inline success messages and single-page forms do not change the URL, so a page-view trigger on /thank-you never fires.
The form or checkout is a third-party embed
Typeform, HubSpot forms in an iframe, Calendly and hosted checkouts finish inside someone else's page. Your tag never sees the submit.
The gclid is lost
Redirects, link shorteners and some CMS rules strip URL parameters. The tag fires but Google cannot match the conversion to a click.
The visitor declined consent
With consent mode, visitors who decline are not tracked with cookies, so a share of real conversions only shows up as modeled data.
How to fix it, step by step
Submit the form yourself
Click your own ad, fill the form, and watch Tag Assistant. Note whether the conversion event fires at all, and on which page.
Fire on the real event
If the URL never changes, switch the Tag Manager trigger to a form submission trigger, or a custom event the form pushes on success.
Handle embeds
Use the embedded tool's own Google Ads integration, or have it redirect to a thank-you page on your domain where your tag lives.
Protect the gclid
Confirm Auto-tagging is on under Admin, then Account settings, and that every redirect passes the full query string through.

Sprites diagnoses this
Sprites diagnoses it
Sprites shows where the account loses the conversion, and checks it against what your CRM says came in.
What Sprites does
- Shows recorded conversions per action, day by day, next to clicks and spend.
- Lists the final URLs your clicks land on and flags any off your domain.
- Reads deals and contacts from HubSpot, so CRM leads and recorded conversions sit in one table.
What it doesn't do
- It does not change your form, your tag or Google Tag Manager.
- It does not upload offline conversions from your CRM to Google Ads.
Questions
Why is Google Ads not recording conversions when I am getting leads?
The tag is not firing at the moment the lead converts, the form finishes on another domain, or the gclid is lost so Google cannot tie the lead to a click.
Do embedded forms work with Google Ads conversion tracking?
Not by default. An iframe form runs on the vendor's domain, so your tag does not see the submit unless the vendor passes the event back or redirects to your thank-you page.
How do I record leads that the tag missed?
Store the gclid with each lead in your CRM and import those leads as offline conversions. That also lets you bid on qualified leads instead of raw form fills.
How long until recorded conversions show in Google Ads?
Usually within a few hours, but Google keeps adding conversions to past click dates for several days.
