Why it happens
The snippet was never published
The snippet was never published
The action was set up in Google Ads but the code, or the Tag Manager tag, never went live. A change sitting unpublished in a Tag Manager workspace is the classic version.
Wrong conversion ID or label
A snippet copied from another action or another account fires, but Google cannot match it to this action.
The trigger never matches
A form-submit or page-view trigger that does not match the real success URL or event, so the tag loads but the conversion event never fires.
Nobody has converted yet
On a new action with little traffic, unverified can simply mean the first conversion has not happened.
How to fix it, step by step
Confirm the setup method
Go to Goals, then Conversions, then Summary, open the action and check Tag setup. Note whether it uses the Google tag, Google Tag Manager or an import.
Run the guided test
Click Troubleshoot next to the action. Google walks you through a test conversion and reports whether the tag fired.
Check the IDs in Tag Assistant
Complete a conversion with Tag Assistant connected. The conversion event must carry this action's conversion ID and label exactly.
Publish and wait
Publish the Tag Manager container or deploy the snippet. Status usually updates within hours of the first conversion, and within about 10 minutes on high-volume actions.

Sprites diagnoses this
Sprites diagnoses it
Sprites checks the account side of an unverified action, so the only thing left to look at is the tag.
What Sprites does
- Shows whether this action has ever recorded a conversion.
- Shows which campaigns optimize for it, so you know what Smart Bidding is chasing while it sits unverified.
- Flags final URLs that send clicks off your domain, where the snippet cannot fire.
- Corrects the action's category, counting and value settings once you approve, so it records the right thing when it does fire.
What it doesn't do
- It does not install the snippet or publish your Google Tag Manager container.
- It does not run Tag Assistant or load your pages.
Questions
What does unverified mean in Google Ads conversion tracking?
The tag tied to this conversion action has not fired yet, so Google has never seen it work.
How long does it take for a conversion action to verify?
Usually a few hours after the first conversion. High-volume actions can update within about 10 minutes.
My tag is installed but still unverified. Why?
Most often the conversion ID or label does not match this action, or the trigger never fires on the real success page. Check both with Tag Assistant.
Can I bid on an unverified conversion action?
You can, but Smart Bidding has nothing to learn from. Keep conversion-based bidding on a verified action until this one records.
