How to connect Google Ads to ChatGPT

Add https://mcp.sprites.ai/mcp as a custom MCP connector in ChatGPT, sign in to Sprites, and ChatGPT can read your Google Ads account and propose changes to it. Setup takes about two minutes and needs no API key. Every write comes back as an approval before it touches the account.

Add Sprites to ChatGPT

Available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, on the web app. Not available on Free. You need a Sprites account with Google Ads already connected — the connector acts on that connection, so ChatGPT never handles a Google Ads credential.

  1. Turn on developer mode

Open Settings, go to Security and login, and switch Developer mode on. ChatGPT shows a warning that custom connectors run third-party code on your behalf — read it and accept. On Business and Enterprise workspaces an admin has to allow developer mode first.

Developer modeSettings → Security and login
  2. Create the Sprites app

Go to Settings → Plugins — this section was called Connectors until July 2026, which is why older guides send you to an Advanced tab that no longer exists. Press the + button to create a developer-mode app.

    ChatGPT
    Settings›Plugins›+ Create
  3. Paste the endpoint and choose OAuth

Give it a name and description, paste the Sprites endpoint, and set Authentication to OAuth. Tick the box confirming you trust the application, then click Create.

    Create app
    NameSpritesMCP server URLhttps://mcp.sprites.ai/mcpAuthenticationOAuth
  4. Sign in and approve the scopes

Connect the new app. ChatGPT sends you to the Sprites consent screen; sign in with the account holding your ad platforms and approve. The app then appears under Drafts in app settings and in the composer under the Developer mode tool.

Run the first prompt

Ask ChatGPT this. It routes to a Sprites door, which reads your Google Ads account and answers — no account to name, no confirmation to give first.

  • With Sprites, how did Google Ads do last 30 days vs the 30 before?
  • Use Sprites to find search terms that spent over $50 with no conversion last month.
  • Ask Sprites to build a Search campaign for our pricing page at $80/day.
  • Have Sprites raise the Brand — Exact budget to $65/day and tell me why first.
  • With Sprites, which campaigns are losing impression share to budget rather than rank?

Open the composer's Developer mode tool and confirm Sprites is listed with its tools enabled, then ask it what it can do.

What ChatGPT can do with Google Ads

The same doors, whichever client you are in. Developer mode gives ChatGPT full read-and-write MCP tools rather than the search-and-fetch pair the built-in connectors are limited to, and the Apps SDK renders the Sprites card in the thread.

Ask about last week in the thread you are already in

Spend, conversions, CPA, ROAS and the period comparison, read from the live account rather than a stale export.

Find the waste before it compounds

Search terms with cost and no conversion, broad-match drift, and the negatives that would have stopped it.

Launch without the wizard

Campaign, ad group, responsive search ads and keywords arrive as one editable proposal rather than nine screens.

Change one thing precisely

Raise a budget, pause a campaign, add a negative — one approval card, applied on your click.

Ask why, not just what

Impression share lost to rank and to budget, auction pressure, and which of the two actually moved.

Leave a standing order

A Monday morning brief or a nightly waste check that runs on schedule and messages you only when it matters.

How approvals work here

ChatGPT draws the Sprites approval card in the thread. A Google Ads change arrives with its before and after filled in, editable in place, and applies when you click approve.

What it reads

  • Campaigns, ad groups, ads, keywords and their status
  • Spend, impressions, clicks, conversions, CPA, ROAS and impression share
  • Search terms, assets and asset performance labels
  • Change history, so a drop can be traced to an edit

What it can change

  • Create campaigns, ad groups, responsive search ads and keywords
  • Budgets, bids, statuses, negatives and targeting
  • Nothing applies without an approval you have seen and clicked

When it does not work in ChatGPT

Three things go wrong in this client specifically, and each has a one-line fix.

There is no Advanced tab under Connectors.

Connectors was renamed Plugins, and developer mode moved to Settings → Security and login. Follow the path above rather than a guide written before July 2026.

Sprites answers but the approval card never appears.

Developer mode is off, or the app was created before you turned it on. The card is an Apps SDK surface and only renders for a developer-mode app.

The tools stop appearing after a Sprites release.

ChatGPT caches the tool list. Use Refresh on the app in settings to pull the current tools and server instructions.

Google Ads and ChatGPT: questions

Which URL do I paste into ChatGPT?

https://mcp.sprites.ai/mcp. There is one endpoint and every client uses it — every OAuth grant is bound to exactly that address, so a variant of it will not be honoured.

Can ChatGPT change my Google Ads account without asking?

ChatGPT draws the Sprites approval card in the thread. A Google Ads change arrives with its before and after filled in, editable in place, and applies when you click approve.

Do I need a Google Ads API key or developer token?

No. Google Ads is connected once inside Sprites through Google Ads (official Google Partner OAuth), and the connector acts on that connection. ChatGPT never sees a credential for it.

Why ChatGPT for Google Ads specifically?

Developer mode gives ChatGPT full read-and-write MCP tools rather than the search-and-fetch pair the built-in connectors are limited to, and the Apps SDK renders the Sprites card in the thread.

Is this a Google Ads MCP server I have to host?

No. Sprites is a hosted remote MCP server: you paste one HTTPS URL into your agent and sign in. There is nothing to install, no developer token to obtain, and no API credentials to store on your machine.

Can the agent spend money without asking?

No. Every write is an approval you see before it applies — the budget, the status, the copy, all editable in the card. In hosts with no card surface, Sprites returns the change and a gate id and applies it only after you confirm in your own words.

Keep going

The same ChatGPT connector reaches every other channel — nothing else to add.
