Why it happens
Sensational teaser text
Sensational teaser text
Headlines like "Doctors hate this" or "You won't believe what happened" that hide the offer to force a click.
Negative life events used to pressure
Copy built on death, accidents, illness, arrests or bankruptcy to induce fear or guilt and push immediate action.
Shock imagery in display or video assets
Images chosen to startle rather than to show the product.
How to fix it, step by step
Find the exact policy topic
Go to Campaigns, then Ads, and hover the Disapproved or Eligible (limited) label in the Status column. It names the policy and the part of the ad it applies to. Tools, then Troubleshooting, then Policy manager lists every affected ad in one place.
Rewrite to the offer
Replace teaser lines with what the product is, who it is for and the reason to act. Remove fear, guilt and shock framing.
Swap the imagery
For display, Demand Gen or Performance Max, replace startling images with product, outcome or customer shots.
Resubmit or appeal
Saving an edited ad resubmits it for review. If you think the call was wrong, or the change was made outside the ad, open Policy manager, choose Appeal and pick Dispute decision or Made changes to comply with policy. Each ad gets 3 appeals, and only decisions from the last 6 months can be appealed from the account.

Sprites fixes this
Or let Sprites fix it
Sprites finds the ads flagged as clickbait and rewrites them around the actual offer.
What Sprites does
- Reads the policy status of your ads and names the policy topic on each disapproved one.
- Rewrites the flagged search ad headlines and descriptions to state the offer plainly.
- Reads each ad back after the edit so you see exactly which text landed.
- You approve every change before it goes live.
What it doesn't do
- It does not change images inside Performance Max asset groups as part of this check, and it does not file appeals.
Questions
Which Google Ads policy covers clickbait?
Misrepresentation. Clickbait ads are a named practice under it, alongside misleading claims and missing business information.
Can a clickbait disapproval get my account suspended?
A routine clickbait disapproval is handled at the ad level. Immediate suspension is reserved for egregious misrepresentation like unacceptable business practices.
Is a before and after image clickbait?
It can be when it sensationalizes or implies results the product cannot deliver. Show the product and a realistic outcome instead.
Is urgency like "ends tonight" clickbait?
A true deadline is fine. Urgency built on fear of a negative life event is not.
