Why it happens
You are searching for your own ad
You are searching for your own ad
Google stops showing an ad to someone who searches for it over and over and never clicks. You may also sit outside the location, schedule or device targeting. Not seeing it does not mean nobody does.
The ad is disapproved or still under review
A disapproved ad never serves, and Eligible (limited) ads serve only in some places. See Google Ads disapproved.
The budget is gone for the day
Once the daily budget is spent the ads stop until tomorrow. Search lost IS (budget) above a few percent means this is happening.
Ad Rank is too low
A low bid, a low Quality Score or a weak ad loses the auction. Search lost IS (rank) measures it.
Targeting excludes the searcher
Location, language, ad schedule, device bid adjustments of -100%, or a negative keyword that blocks the query.
Keywords have low search volume
Keywords nobody searches for do not trigger at all. See low search volume.
How to fix it, step by step
Stop searching for your own ad
Use Tools, then Troubleshooting, then Ad preview and diagnosis. Pick the keyword, location, language and device, and Google tells you if the ad would show.
Check the ad status
Open Campaigns, then Ads. Filter by status and hover anything Disapproved or Eligible (limited) to read the policy and the affected locations.
Read lost impression share
Add Search impr. share, Search lost IS (budget) and Search lost IS (rank) to the Campaigns table. Budget loss calls for more budget; rank loss calls for higher bids or better ads.
Check keyword status
In the Keywords view, read the Status column. Low search volume, Not eligible and Rarely shown each point to a different fix.
Check targeting and negatives
Open the campaign settings for locations, languages and ad schedule, and check your negative keyword lists are not blocking your own keywords.

Sprites fixes this
Or let Sprites fix it
Sprites tells you which of the six causes it is, with the numbers, and stages the change that removes it.
What Sprites does
- Reads every ad’s approval status and the exact policy topics behind a disapproval.
- Splits lost impression share into budget and rank for every Search campaign.
- Audits targeting for missing language criteria, network settings and negative coverage.
- Raises the budget, raises ad group bids or widens location targeting, each one approved by you before it goes live.
What it doesn't do
- It does not run live searches or Ad preview and diagnosis for you.
- It does not edit your landing page when a policy finding is about the site.
Questions
Why can I not see my Google ad when I search for it?
Google limits how often it shows you an ad you never click, and you may be outside the targeting. Use Ad preview and diagnosis, which does not affect your impressions.
How long after approval should my Google Ads show?
Most ads are reviewed within one business day and serve as soon as they are approved, as long as the campaign has budget and the bids can win.
Why are my Google Ads approved but not showing?
Approval only means eligible. The ad still has to win the auction, so look at Search lost IS (rank) and (budget), and at keyword status.
Why are my Google Ads not showing on mobile?
Usually a mobile bid adjustment of -100%, or a campaign type that excludes the placement. Check the Devices view in the campaign.
Does searching for my own ad hurt performance?
It adds impressions without clicks, which can lower click-through rate and skew your data. Ad preview and diagnosis avoids that.
